3 months, first Mother's Day, growth spurt?

Wren turned 3 months a couple weeks ago! She's becoming increasingly aware of her body parts. She's now using her hands to play with her lovey and put it in her mouth. One thing that has significantly improved over the past couple weeks is she no longer cries the entire 45 minute drive to daycare. I purchased a mirror so she can stare at herself, started playing classical music in the car, and gave her a lovey to play with. She'll sometimes fuss a little, but she's WAY more chill. HUGE for my mental health!

A new challenge we're facing is Wren started waking up at 2 am the past three nights after sleeping through the night the past few weeks. We suspect she's going through a growth spurt, because she's been super hungry and fussy lately. She's also recovering from back-to-back sicknesses from daycare. They say your baby will be sick nonstop once you put them in daycare, and that's no joke.

My first Mother's Day was special. Cameron surprised me with beautiful flowers and a card from "Wren" (he wrote it though because she's still "learning to use her hands"). We had pancakes and mimosas on a patio with both of my babies, and the weather was absolutely perfect.

Mother's Day

Mmm...pancakes. One day, Wren.

Big steps at daycare - finally sleeping in her crib.

Lake and Beach

We are certain of one thing about Wren lately - she is a water baby! The past few weeks we've taken trips to Lake Travis and to the Panama City Beach area of Florida with Wren. To say she loves the water is an understatement. We visited Lake Travis with Cam's family, where Wren took her first boat ride and swam in the lake. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then she had a blast "jumping" into the water from the boat. Lake life suited Oscar as well. Who needs a boating license? Lake life is exhausting Larry was kind enough to fly us to Florida so we didn't have to make the brutal choice of braving the COVID-19 crowds at the airport or a 14-hour car ride with a toddler. This allowed us to bring Oscar to the beach with us too! This was our third annual trip "crashing" Mark and Jordan's combined family vacation. It's a special trip for us because we love watching Mark's four niece...

4 month photo dump

I have neglected updating Wren’s blog for several moths, so here is a huge photo dump featuring Christmas, her 3rd birthday, and first time skiing in Crested Butte. Our little one has such a funny little personality. Right now she’s really into cooking and food toys, and she’s turning out to be kind of a girly girl. She insists that everything is “pink”, and the books she picks at bedtimes are typically princess books and fairy tales. She continues to be obsessed with the big bad wolf and witches. Her favorite food is French fries, but she fortunately does a good job cleaning up her fruits and veggies too. When she turned 3, she told us she would now like to have coffee, beer and wine. 😂  She skied for the first time in Crested Butte in February with Cam’s family and loved it. She kept telling her ski instructors that she wanted to “go fast!” She loves her cousins Cash and Walker dearly and thinks they are super cool.  First date  Arboretum Christmas village  Taking...

One month with the bird

Our Little Bird is one month old today. I want to intentionally stress that this month has not been the peaceful, blissful experience that new parenthood is often made out to be on social media. While we acknowledge that we're SO fortunate to have had a relatively easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl, this first month has been gut-wrenching. At Wren's one month check-up, our pediatrician confirmed that Wren most likely has colic, which is just a term used for babies that have un-diagnosed excessive crying. She also said it will probably get worse the next couple of weeks before it starts getting better. The good news is that her growth is on track - she's already 8 lbs, 5.8 oz and has grown a quarter of an inch. What is helping me is learning that we are not alone in having a fussy baby girl. I posted to Facebook last night about my experience and so far have >70 comments and multiple texts from parents who also shared our experience the first three months. You rarel...
