Milk and soy are not Wren's friends.

What a week! Last weekend, Wren got to meet several of Cam's and my best friends. We got lots of help that weekend so we could enjoy the Dallas St. Paddy's Day activities while our friends were in town. Wren appeared to be getting better and was sleeping well Friday and Saturday, but things took a turn for the worse Sunday when Wren began projectile vomiting. Her diarrhea still hadn't improved, either.:( I took Wren back to the doctor on Wednesday and they referred me to a GI specialist. Wren definitely has a milk protein allergy, but she's also allergic to soy! There is soy in the formula we switched her to last week. We've now put her on her FOURTH formula, an amino acid-based formula, and within two days, she is getting better! Her diarrhea is gone, her rash is fading, and the vomiting has subsided. She's still pretty fussy, but she's hitting her 6-week growth spurt, so I suspect the fussing is due to her increased hunger. We hope we've found the

Light at the end of the tunnel... maybe?

Wren is five weeks old today! We had an eventful week and may be one step closer to finding out what is causing Wren to fuss so much. Our poor girl started having diarrhea Monday, and we noticed blood and mucus in her stools Monday night. We took her into the doctor on Tuesday and they believe she has a milk protein allergy. We've switched her to a special formula, and are hoping things improve. She is still having diarrhea, but she's been a lot less fussy and sleeping well today. Our fingers are crossed this is the solution! Wren is starting to become much more alert. I notice now that she is exploring faces and making brief eye contact. She even appears to be smiling! We have a big weekend ahead of us. Wren gets to meet some of our closest friends this weekend/next week, including Steph from Brooklyn, Tim & Christine from Boulder, and Jennuh from Austin!

One month with the bird

Our Little Bird is one month old today. I want to intentionally stress that this month has not been the peaceful, blissful experience that new parenthood is often made out to be on social media. While we acknowledge that we're SO fortunate to have had a relatively easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl, this first month has been gut-wrenching. At Wren's one month check-up, our pediatrician confirmed that Wren most likely has colic, which is just a term used for babies that have un-diagnosed excessive crying. She also said it will probably get worse the next couple of weeks before it starts getting better. The good news is that her growth is on track - she's already 8 lbs, 5.8 oz and has grown a quarter of an inch. What is helping me is learning that we are not alone in having a fussy baby girl. I posted to Facebook last night about my experience and so far have >70 comments and multiple texts from parents who also shared our experience the first three months. You rarel

Zsa Zsa is gone

A lot has happened since the weekend. We switched Wren to a sensitive formula, moved back into our remodeled house (yay!), and Zsa Zsa left after staying with us for a week. We've noticed an improvement with Wren's fussiness since switching formulas. Our newest challenge is that Wren only wants to sleep in someone's arms. She'll wake up 30 minutes after being put down for a nap and cry until somebody holds her. She will NOT have it if we put her back in her bassinet after she falls back asleep. Any parents have tips on how to get through this? A man, his baby and his dog Wren's first bath With Grandma Zonked out With Zsa Zsa Little bird Cam's legs - not mine ;)
