Beginnng of 2021 and Wren's 2nd Birthday

I'm a little late updating, and I missed Wren's 2nd birthday and the week-long Snowpocalypse in Dallas. The year started off pretty tame - we are still sheltering in place for the most part due to the pandemic. We started the year at Fossil Rim, where Wren got to drive through the nature preserve and throw food at the animals. She LOVED it- especially the ostrich!

Wren moved up from the Toddler room at daycare to the Twos room, which took her a couple of weeks to adjust to. She didn't take it well at first because she missed her friends and teachers. She has since warmed up to the new enviroronment and has stopped crying when we drop her off.

Wren turned TWO on February 8! I got professional "Heirloom Photos" taken to mark the milestone.

We celebrated with both sets of grandparents in Ruidoso. Wren loved "driving" Yaya's Jeep, going to the park and opening all of her presents.

We all survived the 2021 Dallas Snowpocalypse. Our family was super lucky - we never lost power or water, and our greatest hardship was that Wren's daycare was closed for most of the week. We spent the week indoors snuggling and playing with our little snowbird.

Lake and Beach

We are certain of one thing about Wren lately - she is a water baby! The past few weeks we've taken trips to Lake Travis and to the Panama City Beach area of Florida with Wren. To say she loves the water is an understatement. We visited Lake Travis with Cam's family, where Wren took her first boat ride and swam in the lake. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then she had a blast "jumping" into the water from the boat. Lake life suited Oscar as well. Who needs a boating license? Lake life is exhausting Larry was kind enough to fly us to Florida so we didn't have to make the brutal choice of braving the COVID-19 crowds at the airport or a 14-hour car ride with a toddler. This allowed us to bring Oscar to the beach with us too! This was our third annual trip "crashing" Mark and Jordan's combined family vacation. It's a special trip for us because we love watching Mark's four niece...

4 month photo dump

I have neglected updating Wren’s blog for several moths, so here is a huge photo dump featuring Christmas, her 3rd birthday, and first time skiing in Crested Butte. Our little one has such a funny little personality. Right now she’s really into cooking and food toys, and she’s turning out to be kind of a girly girl. She insists that everything is “pink”, and the books she picks at bedtimes are typically princess books and fairy tales. She continues to be obsessed with the big bad wolf and witches. Her favorite food is French fries, but she fortunately does a good job cleaning up her fruits and veggies too. When she turned 3, she told us she would now like to have coffee, beer and wine. 😂  She skied for the first time in Crested Butte in February with Cam’s family and loved it. She kept telling her ski instructors that she wanted to “go fast!” She loves her cousins Cash and Walker dearly and thinks they are super cool.  First date  Arboretum Christmas village  Taking...

One month with the bird

Our Little Bird is one month old today. I want to intentionally stress that this month has not been the peaceful, blissful experience that new parenthood is often made out to be on social media. While we acknowledge that we're SO fortunate to have had a relatively easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl, this first month has been gut-wrenching. At Wren's one month check-up, our pediatrician confirmed that Wren most likely has colic, which is just a term used for babies that have un-diagnosed excessive crying. She also said it will probably get worse the next couple of weeks before it starts getting better. The good news is that her growth is on track - she's already 8 lbs, 5.8 oz and has grown a quarter of an inch. What is helping me is learning that we are not alone in having a fussy baby girl. I posted to Facebook last night about my experience and so far have >70 comments and multiple texts from parents who also shared our experience the first three months. You rarel...
