Halloween, Fun Fall Festivities, Teething and Time Changes

Our family went as rock, paper, scissors for Halloween! We took Wren "trick-or-treating" in our neighborhood in her scissors costume. I can't wait until she's old enough to actually understand what's going on, and to be able to partake in the candy eating so Mama doesn't eat all of her candy next time. ;)

We visited the pumpkin patch at the Dallas Arboretum and enjoyed a couple patios in Dallas the past couple weeks since the weather has finally cooled down. We also celebrated my mom's birthday and took Wren to Perry and Jill's son Walker's 2nd birthday party.

One day they'll be friends - once she stops pulling his fur and stealing his thunder.

Wren's developing cute new milestones. She is pulling up and getting the hang of her walker. She just sprouted her first two teeth, and she hasn't been taking it well so far. She's been in a lot of pain the past few days, and she might be sick on top of that, too. She isn't adjusting well to Daylight Savings Time; she was awake at 4:30 a.m. this morning - even earlier than she wakes up in "normal" time. I've had a hard time with these challenges lately, but I'm constantly reminded that we're lucky to have a healthy baby girl. It's a phase and it will pass, just like her hard newborn days did.

She's already found the bar.

We bought this fun portable high chair that we can just take to restaurants and attach to tables.

Lake and Beach

We are certain of one thing about Wren lately - she is a water baby! The past few weeks we've taken trips to Lake Travis and to the Panama City Beach area of Florida with Wren. To say she loves the water is an understatement. We visited Lake Travis with Cam's family, where Wren took her first boat ride and swam in the lake. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then she had a blast "jumping" into the water from the boat. Lake life suited Oscar as well. Who needs a boating license? Lake life is exhausting Larry was kind enough to fly us to Florida so we didn't have to make the brutal choice of braving the COVID-19 crowds at the airport or a 14-hour car ride with a toddler. This allowed us to bring Oscar to the beach with us too! This was our third annual trip "crashing" Mark and Jordan's combined family vacation. It's a special trip for us because we love watching Mark's four niece...

4 month photo dump

I have neglected updating Wren’s blog for several moths, so here is a huge photo dump featuring Christmas, her 3rd birthday, and first time skiing in Crested Butte. Our little one has such a funny little personality. Right now she’s really into cooking and food toys, and she’s turning out to be kind of a girly girl. She insists that everything is “pink”, and the books she picks at bedtimes are typically princess books and fairy tales. She continues to be obsessed with the big bad wolf and witches. Her favorite food is French fries, but she fortunately does a good job cleaning up her fruits and veggies too. When she turned 3, she told us she would now like to have coffee, beer and wine. 😂  She skied for the first time in Crested Butte in February with Cam’s family and loved it. She kept telling her ski instructors that she wanted to “go fast!” She loves her cousins Cash and Walker dearly and thinks they are super cool.  First date  Arboretum Christmas village  Taking...

One month with the bird

Our Little Bird is one month old today. I want to intentionally stress that this month has not been the peaceful, blissful experience that new parenthood is often made out to be on social media. While we acknowledge that we're SO fortunate to have had a relatively easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl, this first month has been gut-wrenching. At Wren's one month check-up, our pediatrician confirmed that Wren most likely has colic, which is just a term used for babies that have un-diagnosed excessive crying. She also said it will probably get worse the next couple of weeks before it starts getting better. The good news is that her growth is on track - she's already 8 lbs, 5.8 oz and has grown a quarter of an inch. What is helping me is learning that we are not alone in having a fussy baby girl. I posted to Facebook last night about my experience and so far have >70 comments and multiple texts from parents who also shared our experience the first three months. You rarel...
