Seven months

Our little bird turned 7 months over the weekend! She's had an eventful couple of weeks, has reached a new milestone, but has also challenged us with some sleeping problems (the 7 month sleep regression is just as real as the 4 month one).

Wren had her first flight in Paw Paw's airplane last week when she went to Ruidoso with Cam, his parents, Oscar, Mark and Tim. I missed her terribly, but I got to get away with the girls in Asheville, NC.

Last weekend she came to Austin with us for her first Texas Game Day. She stayed at Poppy and Wes' with her cousins and a babysitter while we went to the game. We think Wren might have come down with something over the weekend because she developed a fever, a rash, threw up in the car, and was pretty cranky all day on Sunday. Fortunately she's back to her normal happy self, although her rash still hasn't faded.

She's working on her Horns Up

Wren's sleep is still pretty consistent, but the past couple of weeks she's thrown us a curveball a few times by waking up in the middle of the night and struggling to fall back asleep by herself. I've taken to googling "7 month sleep regression" and find comfort in knowing it only lasts a couple weeks.

She has been sitting up by herself for a couple of weeks now, but we found out from daycare yesterday that she can now bring herself from laying down to sitting! She's developing right before our eyes, and is in such a fun stage lately. <3 <3

9 months, first haircut

Our little birdie turned 9 months last week! She is riding all around the house in her walker, climbing stairs, pushing her sit-to-stand walker around the house, and most recently, eating three meals a day. We saw her GI specialist last week and made plans to slowly reintroduce her to dairy and soy next month. If that goes well, she might soon be able to start eating off the big kids' menu at daycare. One of my favorite new parts of the day with Wren is meal time. We went to Dream Cafe on Saturday and sat on the patio with Oscar. Wren got to order "off the menu" for the first time; she ordered a side of avocado and black beans. ;) She LOVES tomatoes - I cut cherry tomatoes into little bite-sized pieces for her, and she picks them up with her fingers and shoves them into her mouth. I'm looking forward to her being more like a little girl and less of a baby.   Wren also got her first haircut last weekend! She sat on Cam's lap and laughed at herse...

Lake and Beach

We are certain of one thing about Wren lately - she is a water baby! The past few weeks we've taken trips to Lake Travis and to the Panama City Beach area of Florida with Wren. To say she loves the water is an understatement. We visited Lake Travis with Cam's family, where Wren took her first boat ride and swam in the lake. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then she had a blast "jumping" into the water from the boat. Lake life suited Oscar as well. Who needs a boating license? Lake life is exhausting Larry was kind enough to fly us to Florida so we didn't have to make the brutal choice of braving the COVID-19 crowds at the airport or a 14-hour car ride with a toddler. This allowed us to bring Oscar to the beach with us too! This was our third annual trip "crashing" Mark and Jordan's combined family vacation. It's a special trip for us because we love watching Mark's four niece...

One month with the bird

Our Little Bird is one month old today. I want to intentionally stress that this month has not been the peaceful, blissful experience that new parenthood is often made out to be on social media. While we acknowledge that we're SO fortunate to have had a relatively easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl, this first month has been gut-wrenching. At Wren's one month check-up, our pediatrician confirmed that Wren most likely has colic, which is just a term used for babies that have un-diagnosed excessive crying. She also said it will probably get worse the next couple of weeks before it starts getting better. The good news is that her growth is on track - she's already 8 lbs, 5.8 oz and has grown a quarter of an inch. What is helping me is learning that we are not alone in having a fussy baby girl. I posted to Facebook last night about my experience and so far have >70 comments and multiple texts from parents who also shared our experience the first three months. You rarel...
